Some Acronyms
ARGO - The name comes from
the Greek mythological ship Argo, which Jason sailed on to find the
golden fleece. The program is part of the Global Ocean Observing System
(GOOS) and is coordinated by an international team of scientists and
technical experts.

CIOOS - Canadian Integrated Ocean Observation System
IOC - Intergovernmental Oceanographic
Commission
(of UNESCO). It was founded
in 1960 and first met in 1961. The IOC Assembly is the main
governing body, including member states, and meets every second
year.
IOC EC -
IOC Executive Council. The
IOC Executive Council is composed of 40 member states (in 2024).
It is elected by the Assembly and meets every year.
