Elizabeth Dowdeswell is dedicated to improving public policy in Canada and around the world. A policy leader in fields as diverse as culture, education and the environment, she played a key role in establishing the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and served as executive director of the UN Environment Programme. She went on to shape domestic nuclear policy as the founding president of Canada's Nuclear Waste Management Organization. She has been called upon to chair several public inquiries and is currently the president of the Council of Canadian Academies.
