Scientific Advisor receives Chernobyl award Richard Gilbert, at that time chief meteorologist with Quebec Region Scientific Services Section, has been awarded a Certificate of Merit for his outstanding work during the 1986 Chernobyl radiation crisis. Formerly supervisor of the Canadian Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network (CAPMoN), he advised AES Air Quality, the Canadian Meteorological Centre and the director general of Atmospheric Research for the six week emergency period. He also ran highly successful dispersion models and liaised with other government departments such as Health and Welfare Canada. |
