Retirement Party, Downsview - 18 May 1995

Organizers and Cameo Photos

The text below was published in the Summer 1995 edition of Zephyr.

The Atmospheric Environment Program's largest retirement party ever took place on May 18, 1995 in Downsview.  As 109 long-time friends and colleagues said farewell, they reflected on fond memories of their collective 1000 years' service with the Department and shared their dreams for the future.

Assistant Deputy Minister Gordon McBean wished the retirees well and thanked them for their achievements.  Among the organizers who made the event a success were Verne Lorde and Deborah Baxter (right), and Cathy Hayes, Mary-Anne Teeter and Theressa Arsenault (below).  David W Phillips also helped with the organization but does not appear in the photos.

Added Notes
:

1. This event was preceeded by several formal presentations of Long Service Awards.  Photos of those presentations are found at this link to Table 7.

2. The Summer 1995 edition of Zephyr also included a large national list of the retirees and departures under what is now known as Program Review 1.  These names will likely include everyone in the cameo photos below as well as those who received presentations earlier.

3.  These events and presentations of 1995 have brought out inquiries about who actually retired with golden handshakes as part of the 1995 and 1996 Program Reviews.  An incomplete list (alphabetical by surname) from Zephyrs and from a few self-declarations can be found at this link.  If there is interest we can update and improve this list.
