Carmen Snyder (nee Old)

Carmen Snyder is from Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta in 1986 with BSc in Meteorology. Upon completion of the Meteorological Operational Course in 1987, Carmen moved to Gander to work as an operational meteorologist for Environment Canada (EC). In October 1988, she moved to CFB Namao as a seconded meteorologist to DND. After the closure of the Canadian Forces Forecast Centre in Namao, Carmen moved to 19 Wing Comox to continue working as a seconded meteorologist until May 2005 when she moved back to Edmonton to the Canadian Meteorological Aviation Centre West (CMAC-W). In Edmonton, Carmen occupied several EC positions including senior meteorologist, program manager, regional planner and acting Head of CMAC-W.

In July 2012, Carmen accepted the post of Chief of Meteorological Operations for Defence Weather Services at the new Joint Meteorological Centre in Gagetown NB where she was responsible for all EC meteorologists delivering forecast services to DND. In September 2016, Carmen took a six month assignment as a seconded EC employee working as the Senior Planner at the Directorate of Meteorology and Oceanography in the CF Intelligence Command, and in April 2016 accepted a deployment to DND in the same position. In May 2017, Carmen became the Director of Meteorology and Oceanography at DND.
