Recognition of Volunteer Ovservers (aka Volunteer Climate Observers) - 1983

Notes:  Many references in Zephyr mention the volunteer weather observers who take meteorological measurements for AES and send them to regional offices.  These people are often recognized in their regions and by HQs, but because their readings are not in "real time", their data usually ends up in the climate data bases.  So they are frequently called "Climate Observers".

Many have been observing for decades and they always appreciate recognition.  March 23, 1983 was WMO World Weather Observer Day and, to prepare for this, AES (MSC) collected photos of some Canadian volunteer observers.

Several of these photos are seen here.  Some still need identification, but many were recognized in a special article on pages 6 and 7 of the May / June 1983 edition of Zephyr.  Most of the photos were taken in 1982.
